Chapter 1785: Two Creations (Part 1)
The battle against Sano and Natta wasn’t what Adam had been preparing for, but after everything he’d heard about them, he’d actually become curious.
It wasn’t just that Sano and Natta had been ordinary humans just a year ago. Unlike him, they hadn’t been common people for a long time, though they weren’t the Phantoms either.
Adam was a young man from the slums who tried to help his family, cleaned houses, collected scrap metal, or worked in warehouses for pennies, and the greatest danger to him wasn’t street fights but a simple lack of money and food.
At the same time, Sano and Natta were living completely different lives. They were among the most problematic military personnel. However, they were also extremely effective. Even back when there weren’t even prototypes for exoskeletons, they managed to kill several White Threat Level Monsters using only military weapons and explosives.
Because of this, they were soon transferred to government agent roles, where their sadism, cruelty, and immorality worked to their advantage.
If ordinary citizens had learned about their history and what Sano and Natta did when they were in the military and worked as government agents, most would have wanted to send them to prison for life or even execute them.
But the real world operated by entirely different rules.
For people like Sano and Natta, there were only two paths: continue working as government agents and then spend a wealthy retirement on the money they earned, or... become one of the Touched Humans.
It didn’t matter which department a person started in, whether it was research, special forces, government agents, or the regular military. The pinnacle and the end of the career for anyone who wanted to go all the way, no matter what, was to become part of the Gamma Division.
After several years of successful work as government agents, Sano and Natta were set to join the Gamma Division. They were among the candidates. Moreover, their potential was rated as exceptional.
Their future was predetermined. For the next hundreds of years, they were to govern the entire Citadel, solve problems, and help rebuild their great city each time after a World Wipe.
That was when Aiden appeared.
Sano and Natta hadn’t lied to Adam. Aiden needed assistants, and he knew that if he wanted to find the best of the best among ordinary people, he had to look among the candidates in the Gamma Division.
Not even the highest ranks in the army had access to this list. Only a few people in the entire Citadel knew the names on this list, and Aiden was one of them.
When he met Sano and Natta, knowing their past achievements, he immediately explained to them what he was doing and what would be required of them.
For several minutes, Sano and Natta listened as he explained how they would need to risk their lives in battle against monsters, and how they would have to kidnap, beat, humiliate, torture, and kill people if necessary.
On top of all this, Aiden demanded complete obedience and respect for him as their sole master. He didn’t need allies. He needed two servants whose moral character even he would find repulsive.
He had found them.
Sano and Natta had only one condition:
"Mr. Aiden," Sano said, standing across from Aiden in a steel room with dim, oppressive lighting.
Aiden glanced at her. His amber eyes shone in the darkness.
"What? Have you finally made a decision?"
Sano and Natta exchanged glances as they smiled. However, their smiles were neither joyful nor warm, but the kind that would send a chill down an ordinary person’s spine. Even as ordinary humans, they exuded an aura of danger, and their thirst for blood was evident.
"Yes. We will be your servants and carry out your orders. If you wish, we will be your maids or slaves. It makes no difference to us. However, if you wish to make a deal, we have a condition."
"Hmm?"
Aiden raised an eyebrow. He wasn’t surprised or angry. He had expected this.
"What do you want? Money? Power? Perhaps new identities and a clean slate? That’s easy to arrange, though it’s not exactly original."
However, Sano shook her head.
"No. We want your knowledge."
Aiden narrowed his eyes when Natta said:
"We will help you conduct your experiments, no matter how cruel and immoral they may be. As you said, effectiveness is the main thing. Everything else doesn’t matter. We want to know as much about the world as the strongest Phantoms do. Whatever you do with your experiments, we want to stay in the loop."
For a moment, Aiden tapped the table before nodding.
"Alright. That’s possible. It’ll even be easier that way, since you won’t ask unnecessary questions, but that’s not all, right?"
Sano nodded.
"When the time comes, we also want to be the subjects of your experiments."
Aiden frowned. "What does that mean?"
Tap.
Sano pressed her palm to her chest with a wild expression.
"We want you to use all your knowledge to make us stronger, so that we become a creation of your experiments. It doesn’t matter how high the risks are or how much it hurts. As you said, the only thing that matters is effectiveness."
Natta stepped forward, sharing the same wild flame in her eyes as Sano.
"After that, once we’ve gone through all your trials, we want you to give us the chance to fight someone special, someone important to you. And then..."
Sano and Natta’s breathing became ragged and heated as their cheeks flushed.
"You must let us fight until that person is lying in a pool of blood, begging us for mercy. You must watch this and enjoy the show!"
Aiden gave them a long look before standing up and adjusting his collar.
"My man will come for you tomorrow morning. Be ready."
"Agh?" Sano touched her lip as she tilted her head. "How will we know who it is?"
Aiden looked at her over his shoulder, grabbing the doorknob.
"Oh, it’ll be simple. That person is the worst version of the two of you. Your disgusting souls will recognize it immediately."
...
Now, that very person was watching the scene from the sidelines.
Gladius smiled as he watched the standoff between Adam, Sano, and Natta.
’Your time has come, two demons trying to pass as humans.’
